THE COTTON LADY is a short documentary film on seamstress Ket Youngstead. After moving to the United States from Hong Kong in 1968, Ket Youngstead began her sewing career in Los Angeles' Garment District. In 1975, Ket opened Feathers Clothing in Laguna Beach, CA, and began exhibiting her designs at the local Sawdust Art Festival where she built decades-long friendships with her clients. Every garment is made by Ket's hand. Her breadth of work evolved from custom wedding and prom gowns to a simple and relaxed clothing line that now includes loungewear, nightgowns and robes. Ket continues to enjoy sewing out of her home in beautiful Laguna Beach. You can find more about Feathers Clothing at feathers-clothing.com and the Sawdust Art Festival at sawdustartfestival.org. ____________________________ Directed by Shawn Fung Cinematography & Editing by Shawn Fung Featured Songs: "2 Guitars" and "Home is Calling" by Old People (Dave Hall, Nick Martus, Aaron Stein-Chester) Special thanks to Camille Garcia, Nick Martus, and Scott Youngstead. Southern California natives Nick Martus (Singer/Songwriter) and Shawn Fung (Cinematographer) filmed "DON'T GO THAT WAY" during a one-night recording session at a local studio. The two met as musicians in their junior high school's orchestra and became fast friends. Their shared passion for music led them to team up and explore creative outlets inspired by their hometown of Dana Point, CA. "DON'T GO THAT WAY" is their debut film, and the first of many artistic collaborations to come. ____________________________ Written & Performed by Nick Martus; Solo Guitar by Randy Rusk Cinematography & Editing by Shawn Fung
